Architecture and Environment

This module was heavily theoretical. As a result, I learned a lot about lighting, acoustics, and design. Each lecture was extremely informative, and the slides provided were divided into massive chunks of bite-sized information. All of our tutors were extremely helpful with our assignments and provided excellent suggestions for how we could improve our research boards based on their own personal experiences.

Case Study: Assessing Daylight & Thermal Comfort at Modern Houses

We had to come up with ideas in groups of five on how to maximize daylight and thermal comfort for their chosen modern house, which could be a double-storey corner lot or a double-storey semi-detached house. This case study's fieldwork included data collection, observation, and ideas for improving the current state of daylight distribution and thermal comfort.

Artificial Lighting Design

We chose a space from various building typologies in a group of five and needed to use the Lumen Method calculation to determine the appropriate number of lighting required for the given space. The general lighting design required drawings such as floor layout, section, and lumen method calculation, as well as suggestions for other types of lighting required in the given space.

I practised learning independently by completing each assignment in this module. I found and extracted information based on what I thought was appropriate and used it as effectively as I could. Aside from that, the information I've discovered has increased my intellectual engagement with what I was doing and made the assignment more fulfilling.
