Architectural Design 1
This module has been particularly eye-opening for me in terms of design. It was different from my foundation year, which had been more laid-back. Now, I feel like I've matured in terms of my design thinking.
Geometry and Form
In a workshop-based exploratory studio, this design project introduces basic understanding of design principles, processes, and approaches for generating ideas, developing designs, and translating them into forms. Through exploration of design principles and application through tattoo stamps and models, this project encourages us to tap into our critical and creative sides. This was a personal project in which we exchanged ideas and thoughts through workshops.
Structure and Body
"MY BAMBOO" is the name of this project. We had to design and build a 1:1 structure for a specific action. We worked in groups to design and build a structure for the elderly and children at the SS2 community garden. We worked with bamboo and thus had to understand its materiality and characteristics, as well as demonstrate basic construction knowledge. We looked into construction details like joints and joinery, as well as structural quality. This had a significant impact on us because we created a structure that the community will use. Our structure was designed with a great deal of empathy.
Space and Sensory
This assignment required us to revisit our project 2 1:1 structure and further develop it into sensorial spaces. It required us to investigate the role of elements and design composition principles in project 1 and anthropometrics and ergonomics in project 2 to investigate the role of the senses in the creation of architecture. Our activity is the same as the one assigned to us in Project 2. My group concentrated on "sight." As a result, my primary focus was on the sense of sight and the use of our eyes.
