Architectural Design 4

Clustered areas were the focus of this design studio. I tried to define my own idea of what a clustered space should seem like because at first I did not find clustered spaces to be particularly appealing. Ultimately, I've humbled myself to believe that USJ 14 residents should have little trouble navigating the areas. This is due to the diverse population, which includes both young children and the elderly. Throughout this module, I've learnt to be more humble and user-friendly.

Site Analysis &  Design Response

Site Analysis and Design Response creates the backdrop for our following two assignments. In allocated tutorial groups, we went on site visits to identify the physical and intangible qualities that create the location's character. Engagement with site users has shown the needs of the community on the site. As the Design Response to the Site Analysis step, we collaborated with our tutorial group to create a new plan for the demarcated site area by planning and designing a Neighbourhood Park Plan.

Design Esquisse -   Learning Pod

This project explores the concept of materiality in relation to usage and experience. Materiality is viewed as a context for community activities that impart meaning and relationships, as well as a function of structure and creation. We were asked to create a Learning Pod that would exhibit architectural form and materiality for a specified set of activities. This project's examination of issues focusing on the concept of learning as well as users' spatial experiences is then linked to our final project.

Neighbourhood Learning Centre

The project includes the creation of a Neighbourhood Learning Centre inside the proposed Neighbourhood Park Plan (Project P1A) at USJ14 Park. We were expected to submit detailed design proposals that included data from site analysis and precedent investigations. We created narratives that respond to the environment and community within the given context, as well as investigating the environmental poetics of building enclosure design solutions that reduce environmental impact through the use of various complex typologies of spatial organizations and a variety of passive strategies for sustainable design.

First of all, I couldn't have done this assignment without paying attention and taking notes during each lecture. The knowledge I've received has helped me tremendously during this project as it made me understand my task at a deeper level. It has opened my eyes on the different approaches in design and ways to explore each design at a deeper and more meaningful level.
